Taking Culture Wars to the Toilets

By now, everyone has heard all about Target allowing transgenders to choose which bathroom they want to use. Meaning a male could use the woman's restroom and a female could use the men's restroom. Many people are extremely upset about the news. Many of Targets loyal customers (mainly parents) have decided to never shop there again due to this choice. Parents aren't too happy about this because of the fact that their little children could be in the same restroom with an opposite sex adult. Although I do support transgenders, I know some people are creeps so you can never be too safe. Women/ men deserve privacy and should be able to feel safe in public restrooms. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick in an interview said, “I think the handwriting is on the bathroom wall: Men need to stay out of the ladies’ room. This isn’t about equal rights. This isn’t about being against anyone or anti-any person. This is about common sense, common decency and allowing women to have comfort when they’re in the bathroom.” It would be a surprise if the Texas Legislature doesn’t try to pre-empt whatever cities are doing with anti-discrimination ordinances by passing a state law requiring people to use the stalls set aside for the gender that’s on their birth certificates. If a bathroom ban were to pass, Texans born as men who identify as women would have to use the men’s room, in their dresses and high heels, while those born as women and now identify as men would have to use the women’s room, with their beards and mustaches. Yes that would be weird, but at least parents would feel safer with letting their children use a public restroom.

In this commentary I'm review today is classmate Jennifer Silva, Taking Culture Wars to the Toilets. This original article talks about gender identity issues involving using the restroom.

Since this addresses about a public grocery store, from a point of view the "issue" is understandable. Of course, a bunch of people of any notion will enter the store. Unlike a small restaurant where you immediately see the person who enters. So I could see how it could make Parents nervous since public bathrooms are more or less private. I agree with Jennifer, you could never be too safe.

But I believe that transgenders should be able to use the bathroom to the gender that they say they are. It’s a person identity. It’s a concept of who they are. I think that adding in that men who falsely dress up as women and go into the women's bathroom is just supporting a fear that is not related to the transgender community. If a man did that, then that's a different court problem that involves mentally ill perverts, not self-identity or civil rights.

Look the only reason why anyone would go to the bathroom is to use the bathroom. There are no interviews going on in there. You get in and you get out.

What I find ridiculous for Texas to do is to try to pass a bill. Specifically speaking according to KXAN article, "House Bill 1748 authored by Rep. Debbie Riddle (R-Spring) says if someone over the age of seven uses a bathroom that doesn’t match their gender, they can be charged with a felony." I feel like that is an excessive ordeal and inappropriate. Okay...How does this not apply to mothers bringing in their toddler sons into the women's bathroom? If a transgender goes into the bathroom then that's their goal is to use the restroom. Ask no questions, keep bathroom issues out of the court house.

have reviewed one of classmates Jeniffer Silvia's article Taking Culture Wars to the Toilets . It was basically talking about the gender issue that can choose to use either male or female restroom .
After I read article that she posted, I could absolutely understand her argument and agree with it.
The problem is not all transgenders are trustworthy to use restroom where they want to choose, no one can be sure what will be happened and many people would against on this issue. This is out of the equal right and can't really understand that they can chooose the restroom they want to. We have respectation and consideration on them, but obviously can't trust all of them. There is a possibility that Some of them may be dangerous and harm to other gender. If it's unlucky, this problem can go on criminal issue as we can guess. The male restroom and female restroom are existing for privacy on gender and not to distract to each other.
We are not judging on this, but this can make people have uncomfortable feeling to use the restroom. It is just weird and should be out of the court house, so people don't have to worry. Not all of us would have same agreement, but basically "yes". It's not about to be against anti-person. It just doesn't make sense that sharing restoom together. It is unpredictable that can make accident or inappropriate action in public restroom and people want to use safe restroom. As she said, The opposite way would be better that men born identity as women would have to use men's restroom. This is still weird and doesn't convince us ,but could think positive way that people can feel safe in public restroom.

I’m reviewing Jennifer Silva, “Taking Culture Wars to the Toilet”, article. Her blog focused on Targets new policy allowing transgender to choose which restroom they think it’s right for them. Jennifer mentioned that customers are worried for their kids and how a grown adult man could probably do harm to their child. In which she agrees with a man and a woman to have their separate restrooms. Jennifer did a great job saying what the issues were and what were her opinions about gender restroom. And while I agree that a man or woman not transgender being able to walk in the opposite sex restroom may look weird, it still doesn’t take away from the fact that why shouldn’t a transgender go in the restroom they feel they are meant to be in. We all know what a transgender means, it means that they don’t believe that they are the sex they were born to be. So why should a transgender men or woman have to go to a restroom where they don’t feel like they belong in! Restrooms are a place to go in and come out, that’s it, why think more than that! To those parents that fear for their kids, they have two options in my opinion. One, is leave the restroom and go to another one, or second, if you fear for your kid just lookout for them. Transgenders are going to restrooms for the same reasons as me and you. So why make it a big deal for someone who believes to be a woman or a men to use the bathroom to the gender they believe to be. At the end of the day, transgender man and women will always be given a second stare. If a transgender man walks in a men’s restroom dressed as a woman his not going to be wanted, so why not let her pee in the place where she feels comfortable in.? And if someone pretending to be a transgender wonder in the wrong restroom, that ca be taken to court. Why punish other peoples rights and equality because of fear of something that might not happen!

Commentary: Taking Culture Wars to the Toliet
In reviewing Jennifer Silva's article, it focused on Target allowing transgenders to choose what bathroom they want to use. Many people feel that it is unsafe for a male to use the women's restroom and the female to the men's restroom. Some parents stopped shopping at Target because of this decision. I thought the blog flowed well and Jennifer brought up some good points to think about. Her key point is that men who identify as women would have to use the men's room, in their dresses in heels, while those born as women and now identify as men have to use the women's room, with their beards and mustaches. I agree with Jennifer that we should do whatever is going to be safe.

Blog 8: THE FINAL BLOG
On Monday May 9, 2016 Jennifer Silva published an article titled "Taking Culture Wars To The Toilet". Her article is about the law that's being passed that men that turned themselves into a woman and woman that turn themselves into a man can use whichever restroom they want to. I strongly agree with Jennifer's, she goes on about how its not right and how certain targets around the world are allowing this and passing this law. This is so crazy people, loyal customers of target are no longer wanting to shop there because they are so disturbed. Which they have every right to be. I know i use this phrase a lot in most of my articles but now and days their are so many messed up corrupted people out there you don't know who to trust. Lets say for instance you send your eleven year old daughter into the bathroom alone thinking nothing of it, assuming she'd be safe and as she's walking out of the restroom you notice a man a full grown MAN behind her walking out of the same exact restroom, not looking what so ever like a transgender just a normal man. That would make you feel so uncomfortable because you have no idea what he's capable of and if he talking to your child in there or took perverted photos of her. I believe and also agree with Jennifer when she says you should have to be allowed only to attend the bathroom of the gender that you were born with and that appears on your birth certificate. I have nothing against gays, or transgenders but i do feel very uncomfortable if i'm planning on using the bathroom and theirs a man in their with me. We should be able to feel safe while in a restroom and if we don't this whole pick and choose which ever restroom you want to go to law should NOT be passed for the safety and comfort of others.
